Wild Horses at Phon D Sutton

By Chris Tingom @christingom · On April 22, 2019

On Friday we went over to check out the Salt River wild horses and we actually found several! We saw more, but I was not able to capture them on video. We actually spotted the horses in this video along the highway, but you may have good success at Phon D Sutton Recreation Area (first moments of video shows this area).

I was quite happy to find a place I could fly my drone!

Here’s a possible itinerary if you are looking to go see horses:

  • First stop: Phon D Sutton Recreation Area, Fort McDowell, AZ 85264
  • Second Stop: Coon Bluff Campground, Coon Bluff Rd, Mesa, AZ 85215
  • Third stop: Butcher Jones Recreation Site, Fort McDowell, AZ 85264

Expect about a 6 hour trip if you’re visiting each of these places and driving from the metro-Phoenix area.

For more information about these beautiful horses, please visit http://www.srwhmg.com or look for Salt River Wild Horse Management Group on FB.

This group fought for the horses to remain at the Salt River, and continue to do so 24/7.
